Gibb River Road

We set off from Derby on one of Australia's classic outback drives - the mostly unsealed 650Km Gibb River Road.  First camp was at Silent Grove then the next was at Manning River.  The highlight for us was the 5 night stay along the Kalumburu Road at the Gibb River crossing.  Great swimming, walks and new friends everyday.

We decided not to venture further on the heavily corrugated Kalumburu Road but instead chilled out by the side of the river watching the flat bed trucks going up everyday to retrieve a broken camper trailer, car or caravan.  These are very expensive recoveries when you are looking at 1000km return trip from Derby or Kununurra.  We also noticed several people go up the road for an hour or so and turn around and come back to camp beside the Gibb.

We later camped beside the Durack River before returning to civilisation in Kununurra.
